In response to the unfolding situation surrounding the delay in SNAP benefits and its impact in the region, the Community Foundation of West Tennessee donated $20,000 in hunger relief assistance to two local nonprofits.
These emergency response grants will provide critical funding to support ongoing operations for food assistance organizations as they experience increased demand for services. Funding allows them to pivot and purchase necessary resources for individuals and families affected by the delay.
“Our primary purpose is to support our friends and neighbors, and right now, many are facing a devastating challenge,” said Beth Koffman, Chief Operating Officer for the Community Foundation. "The vital need our community is facing from the disruption in benefits is impacting struggling families, seniors, and working individuals. Immediate action is needed to fund our local pantries, ensuring they have the resources to meet the increased demand.”
In addition to these initial grants, the Community Foundation launched an appeal for monetary donations, which will be used to provide more grants to other local food banks, meal programs, and partners across rural West Tennessee.
All gifts received between now and November 15, 2025, will be matched by the Community Foundation up to $40,000. Donations may be made online at www.cfwtn.org/hunger or by mail to 74 Directors Row, Jackson, TN 38305.
