What is the Community Foundation?
The Community Foundation of West Tennessee is a public charity that is focused on supporting West Tennessee by facilitating and holding donations used to address community needs and support local nonprofits. Our mission is to strengthen the health and well-being of our region by serving as a catalyst for positive changes in the arts, education, healthcare, and other causes.

Why should I recommend the Community Foundation rather than helping my client to create their own foundation or nonprofit?

If the Community Foundation seems like a fit for my client, what types of funds are there?
The Community Foundation has several types of funds available. The most popular options for donors looking to make larger gifts for estate or tax planning are Donor Advised Funds and Endowments. Click on the Donor Advised Fund versus Endowment link in the Advisors Toolkit for more information.

What types of gifts can my client make to the Community Foundation?
Because we are managing a large portfolio of assets, we are equipped to accept gifts in various forms including securities and real estate among others. Can my client choose different investment options?
Yes, depending on the type of fund they choose to open, our Board of Trustees has developed several different investment options that will promote growth while keeping in mind the donor’s risk tolerance. Click on the Investment Options link in the Advisors Toolkit for more information.

The Community Foundation of West Tennessee allows many of our clients to give where their heart and passions lie. It serves as “a one-stop shop” for managing our client’s charitable giving, offering convenience, flexibility and tax advantages. It offers an immediate tax deduction and gift receipt upon donation, as well as the opportunity to make grant recommendations to the charities they care about and support over time.
